Stone Age Settlements: As part of your trip to Lullymore you will get to meet a “New Stone Age” man and learn about his way of life. New for 2016, experience firsthand the wonder of the sunlight entering the Newgrange Passage Tomb as it has done annually on the Winter Solstice for the past 5000 years.
‘The Neolithic Period’ or New Stone Age was the final stage of cultural evolution and technological development among prehistoric humans. It is considered an important period in Irish history as the people of this era were the first farmers in Ireland,6000 years ago, and laid the foundation of a lasting civilisation in this land. A visit to Newgrange illustrates perfectly how advanced these people were.
Newgrange or ‘Brugh na Boinne’ is one of the finest megalithic tombs to be found in the world, and dates back over 5000 years. Not only has it the finest corbelled roof in the world, but it also boasts a virtual treasure trove of megalithic art. In addition, sunlight only enters the tomb on December 21st – The Winter Solstice. It’s a reminder of advanced past civilisation in Ireland, with a passionate belief in the afterlife, and is a part of our heritage we should be very proud of.
Many ancient writings refer to Newgrange as the burial place of Aengus, a King of the Tuatha de Danann. The Tuatha de Danann are the tribe closely associated with the Fairies in Ireland.
I booked the Halloween experience for my family of four. I made a mistake with the dates in the tickets and the guys at Lullymore were just so accommodating! They let me move the booking and saved the day.
Sarah KWhat a fantastic show Lullymore put on every year. Really enjoyed it as did my 11 and 14 year old. Cafe is lovely and the outside seating area comes with 2 inquisitive geese! The best thing about Lullymore more is the staff.
