Lullymore Heritage & Discovery Park is a social enterprise day visitor attraction located on a mineral island in the Bog of Allen between the villages of Rathangan and Allenwood in North West Kildare. The Park was officially opened by President Mary Robinson in 1993 and has grown from very humble origins to now offer over 60 acres of serene woodland and peatland trails, in Ireland’s most famous peatland, the Bog of Allen in West Kildare. The Park is a key resource in the region helping to drive visitors into the midlands which traditionally did not benefit from tourism partly due to industrial peat extraction.
We provide local employment and training and a range of services such as education on peatland biodiversity and local history, peatland rehabilitation as well as leisure and play. The facility caters for visitors of all ages, school tours at primary, secondary and third level, language schools, families, corporate events and international tour groups. Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park is a national award-winning enterprise (ITIA Best Environmental Tourism Innovation 2017) and attracted over 54,000 visitors in 2019. It is hoped the growth of the Park will bring real social and economic benefits to our community and protect our surrounding peatlands for present and future generations.
“The aim is to create a successful, viable visitor attraction. The values and standards we wish to demonstrate are to successfully wean the community into a way of life that will be both satisfying and financially rewarding for the community. We hope the success of our endeavors will be judged by the development of a major day visitor attraction which will create employment, alleviate disadvantage, protect our environment, enhance our Community and act as a catalyst for further development and tourist related employment in our area.” Sean Judge, Founder, Lullymore Heritage Park – 1990.
Lullymore Heritage & Discovery Park remains committed to educate, protect and promote our surrounding peatlands and to continue working with local community groups to improve the way of life and opportunities available through sustainable tourism for people living in West Kildare / East Offaly.

What a fantastic show Lullymore put on every year. Really enjoyed it as did my 11 and 14 year old. Cafe is lovely and the outside seating area comes with 2 inquisitive geese! The best thing about Lullymore more is the staff.

We were greeted by Ray for our short visit to this attraction. The site tells an important part of Irish history and includes practical demonstrations of peat cutting and the history of the industry.
